Forced into a brutal training program as a dragon rider, Violet struggles against prejudice and physical limitations. Danger lurks within the elite academy walls, fueled by war and hidden secrets. Through cunning, resilience, and unexpected bonds, she defies expectations and carves her path, facing a destiny intertwined with both dragons and the fate of her kingdom.

Violet Sorrengail is a scribe in all ways that matter. But she is also her mother's daughter. And that little fact is what changed her life. She's thrown into the Riders' quadrant with no preparation and she struggles to survive in the cut-throat competition there.

Of course, there's also Xaden Riorson. The dark, mysterious, broody personality is what separates him from the rest of the crowd. And also that he is the son of a traitor.

I honestly loved this book. There's nothing that a beautifully built world with dysfunctional characters can't fix. Compared to other fantasy YA books, this world is right up there at the top. Violet is petite but so smart, especially when she uses different techniques to disarm her opponents before the fight.

The enemies-to-lovers trope is on point with some steamy, swoony romance.

10/10 recommend!
