Unlike every other book, I couldn't read this one in a single sitting. God, the horror-dipped murders give me the chills, quite literally.
Stepping back into the world of Audrey Rose Wadsworth was like slipping on a familiar, albeit slightly bloodstained, glove. This time, the stakes were higher, the setting more gothic, and the mystery as chilling as the Transylvanian mountains themselves.
The invitation to Dracula's castle? A morbid curiosity I couldn't resist. The string of exsanguinated victims? A puzzle that demanded my forensic expertise. And Thomas Cresswell, my infuriatingly charming partner-in-crime (solving), well, his presence was as necessary as it was infuriating.
The atmosphere in the book was thick with suspense. The creaking floorboards, the flickering candlelight, the ever-present threat of something lurking in the shadows – Maniscalco's vivid descriptions had me checking over my shoulder every few pages.
The plot? A labyrinth of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. Just when I thought I had a suspect cornered, the rug would be pulled out from under me. The murderer reveal? Let's just say it had me gasping for air.
Now, I wouldn't be myself if I didn't mention the delightful banter between Audrey Rose and Thomas. Their witty exchanges provided a much-needed spark of humor amidst the darkness. The tension between them simmered throughout the story, threatening to boil over at any moment.
Overall, "Hunting Prince Dracula" surpassed its predecessor in every way. It was a masterclass in gothic horror, historical fiction, and a dash of forbidden romance. If you're looking for a book that will keep you up all night, then this is the one for you. Just make sure you have a crucifix handy... just in case.
