Cracking open "Stalking Jack the Ripper" felt like stepping into a fog-laden London alley. The very first sentence had me hooked: "The stench of death clung to me like a shroud." This wasn't your typical historical fiction. It was dark, gritty, and dared to peek behind the lace curtains of Victorian propriety.

Our protagonist, Audrey Rose, wasn't your fainting flower either. This headstrong heroine apprenticed with her eccentric uncle in a grimy morgue. Dissecting corpses was her playground, and unraveling mysteries, her secret passion. The Ripper murders threw Victorian London into a frenzy, and Audrey, fueled by a morbid curiosity and a thirst for justice, found herself drawn into the investigation.

The budding romance with the enigmatic Thomas Cresswell added a layer of forbidden flirtation. Was he a charming ally or a potential suspect? I couldn't help but root for Audrey as she navigated the social constraints of her time, defying expectations to chase the truth.

The book wasn't for the faint of heart. The descriptions of the Ripper's grisly crimes were stomach-churning, but they never felt gratuitous. They painted a vivid picture of the terror gripping London's underbelly.

"Stalking Jack the Ripper" wasn't just a murder mystery; it was a coming-of-age story. Audrey's journey of self-discovery, set against the backdrop of a chilling investigation, kept me glued to the pages. The ending left me breathless, desperate to get my hands on the sequel. If you crave a historical mystery with a strong female lead, a touch of romance, and a whole lot of gore, then this book is definitely worth stalking down.
