Intriguing Magic, Frustrating Romance: A Spymaster's Journey in "The Curse of Saints"

As someone who devours fantasy novels, I dove headfirst into "The Curse of Saints" with high expectations. The blurb promised a world of magic, political intrigue, and a hint of forbidden romance – all my favorite things. Let me tell you, the magic system did not disappoint. The Visya, with their bonded wolf companions, were fascinating. The way their emotions fueled their powers kept me guessing about the consequences.

However, I felt the world-building needed a bit more fleshing out. The history and different kingdoms felt sketched in rather than fully realized. There were glimpses of a rich tapestry, but I craved a deeper dive.

Now, onto the characters. Aya, the spymaster, was a complex protagonist. Her struggle to control her magic resonated with me. But the romance with Will, the Queen's Enforcer? Let's just say the constant bickering felt more like high school drama than star-crossed lovers. Don't get me wrong, the enemies-to-lovers trope has its charm, but here it felt repetitive and overshadowed the rest of the plot.

Despite these frustrations, the plot itself kept me engaged. Unraveling the mystery behind the curse and the looming threat was genuinely thrilling. The action sequences were heart-pounding, and the twists kept me guessing until the very end.

Overall, "The Curse of Saints" is a good debut novel with a promising foundation. If you're looking for a fast-paced adventure with a unique magic system, this book is worth checking out. Just be prepared for a slow-burn romance that might leave you wanting more.
